About the Bay
So why is the Chesapeake Bay important?
Many creatures depend on the Chesapeake Bay. It supports plant life such as underwater grasses and tidal and non-tidal wetland plants. It is also home to animals such as blue crabs, waterfowl, river otters, and more. Agricultural runoff is the greatest cause of pollution in the Chesapeake Bay water shed. It can affect the water quality and harm aquatic life. While the bay's condition isn't good, it has been getting better. Did you know the bay is good for the economy? The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has recently conducted a study that proves that a healthy bay is good for the economy.
